Real Living Blog
IRENE HOOFS recently won Meet The Blogger “Best Lifestyle Blogger 2012” award. She brings daily inspirational finds to her readers, with a slight bias towards Dutch design.
What inspired you to start your blog in 2006?
“During a long winter in Toronto I decided to follow my dreams. I was a freelance designer at the time, but had a deep-rooted wish to pursue my passion for design, trend-watching and the online world.”
Where do you get ideas for posts?
“From my interest in design trends and curiosity about new developments in crafts, as well as my own crafting experiments. There are many talented artists who submit their work to the blog – and are a great inspiration, too.”
How has blogging changed over the years?
“There are many more blogs now, so there is this incredible web of collaborating, professional design bloggers around the globe, which has added a beautiful new dimension to blogging. Also, Twitter, Facebook, Pinterest and Instagram have become crucial to building an online presence and attracting a faithful following.”
One design tip for decorating your home?
“Think of a colour palette you would like leading through your home. These colours can be understated and reappear in unexpected places: on pillows, ceramics, curtains, books, etc. Recognisable colours give a sense of unity and tranquillity to a home.”
What influences your style?
“I am most influenced by artists who are very authentic. Those who stay very close to their hearts, bringing their unique touch to whatever item it is. This can be very daring, different and unconventional, but also very basic and fundamental. I admire this in a lot of the Japanese designers.”
Any new projects in the pipeline for Bloesem?
“No new blogs, but I am working on new online projects. The ‘Designer Profile’ series will be getting more attention; a book, perhaps; and I’ll be collaborating with international designers on some special projects.”
