The School of Real Living: Home office how-to
Whether you work from home or manage the household, creating a gorgeous home office will make getting your jobs done easier.
LOCATION, LOCATION
Where you place your home office depends entirely on what you intend to do there. If you manage your household, set-up a work station near the kitchen. If you have children who will use it, keep it in the living room. If you run a business from home, you may need a separate room to store everything.
MAKE A PLAN
Allocate some time to work out an organisational plan and designate storage spots in bookshelves and drawers to cut down on the chaos. A little planning goes a long way!
WHICH HUE?
When it comes to the colour scheme, consider where your home office will be. If it's an exposed nook within an openplan space you may want to keep the palette neutral. If you have a whole room, you can experiment with colour.
BOX CLEVER
If you have open shelves, fill them up with gorgeous storage boxes to stash your stuff. There are styles to suit every look: fabric-covered, timber, woven, metal...
COLOUR-CODED
Use patterned or colourful binders and magazine holders to store paperwork such as tax invoices, school notes and important documents. They'll look pretty and make sorting and finding what you need much easier.
KIDS' STUDY NOOK
Kids' rooms often do double duty as study areas, so create a nook where they can do homework. A desk and chair needs only the addition of cool storage boxes, pencil cups and a few handy hooks to hang up school bags.
PIN IT UP
Pinboards work well in all sorts of home offices. Use them to pin up recipes, reminders, bills, photos and even the kids' artworks and school certificates.
