Good-quality twine or jute string
Spray laundry starch – we used Crisp Starch
Pendant batton holders
Energy-saving 10W globe
These stylish woven pendant lights are easily made with some string, starch and a few balloons. Yep, it's that easy!
Step 1
Blow up three balloons in slightly different sizes.
Step 2
Tie one end of a piece of string to the balloon knot and start wrapping the balloon with string until it's pretty much covered aside from a few little gaps (as seen in the image). Repeat for other two balloons. Don't pull to taut or you might burst the balloon.
Step 3
Attach string-covered balloons to a clothing line or somewhere it can hang freely. Spray with a starch (we used Crisp Starch, $ from Bi-Lo) until soaked and leave to dry. If the string doesn't feel stiff to touch, spray again.
Step 4
Once dry, pop the balloons and remove from the inside of the cocoons. To increase the time the pendant lights will last, spray the inside of the cocoon with starch too once the balloons have been removed.
Step 4
Carefully insert batton fittings and globes inside pendants and tie in place with extra string. Suspend over the dining table or hang in your home for a stunning installation!
