Get hold of some second-hand or rarely used plates, as well as candlesticks, vases, or mugs. The latter will form the bases of your stands. Place a plate on the top of a base to see if the duo work well together. Radically contrasting styles can be very effective!
Turn plate upside down and, with marker, draw where the base should go. You might want to use a ruler to ensure that the base will be centred.
Make sure the surfaces that are to be glued together are clean. Using a strong two-part bonding glue such as Selleys Araldite, cover the area of the candlestick, vase or mug that will come into contact with the plate. Glue the base onto marked area of the plate.
Attach 4 pieces of gaffer tape to the base/plate combo to hold them in place until the glue dries (at least 20 minutes). Once dry, remove the tape, turn the newly created cakestand up the correct way, and make some cupcakes! Note Handwash only.
