What you'll need
Different types of fusible fabric
Pillow stuffing
Sewing machine
As you're weaving a basket you can cut out some extra strips for a cushion. A cushion with a woven surface is a 3-dimensional textile art piece.
1. Iron pieces of fabric on both sides of a strong two-sided fusible fabric.
2. Cut long strips out of the fabric 4-8cm wide.
3. Weave a rectangle piece of the strips as if you were weaving a basket. Baste or stitch the edges of the woven piece so that it'll be easier to sew.
4. Cut out two pillow pieces. One will be the background for the woven piece, and the other one will be the bottom of the pillow.
5. Place the background fabric under the woven piece and place the bottom fabric on top of them so that the rights sides are facing each other.
6. Sew the three pieces together. Remember to leave an opening for turning.
7. Reverse the pillowcase, fill it with stuffing and stitch the opening closed.
P.S. With the weaving technique, you can also make a handsome chair pad or a traditional rug.
