In the September 2011 issue of
Real Living
we ran a Handywoman project about
customising glass bottles
. But in the background was another cool project – a customised wall created using painter's tape and paint. Here's how to do it.
Using a ruler as a guide to ensure your pattern is even, design your pattern on the wall with painter's tape. We overlapped the corners on a series of squares for our Moroccan-inspired pattern.
After you have taped the wall with your design, first paint the existing or base colour on the wall with a roller. This helps to create a "seal" and minimise bleeding (especially if your walls have slight texture).
After this is completely dry, paint 2 coats of the second colour, remembering two thinner coats are better than 1 thick coat.
Once dry, remove the tape to reveal your two-tone pattern.
