Thanks to a good old fashion "switcheroo", innovative design solutions are not an issue in this new kitchen.
When owners James and Iona decided to renovate their leafy terrace in Sydney's north, they went straight online, did a bit of a Google and came across quotes website,
ServiceSeeking.com.au
A new kitchen was at the top of their wish list, so they listed a job on the site and were inundated with quotes from experienced kitchen companies keen to do the work.
They ended up selecting Gumtree Joinery for the job. "They weren't the cheapest company, but they were lovely and friendly — and professional, " says James.
The previous kitchen was located in what is now the living room and was much more cluttered and cramped. Although it wasn't really dated, it created a large void that was difficult to utilise in a practical way.
A room "switcheroo" meant that Tom Thelwell from Gumtree Joinery was effectively presented with a blank canvas to work with.
Although the couple had lots of design ideas of their own — such as a lovely light colour scheme - Tom worked with the couple to help refine these concepts and create this modern-looking kitchen.
Cashmere CaesarStone benchtops were chosen to give the space a clean, spacious feel, while polished floorboards, glossy white cabinets and the reflective finish of the glass splashback further enhanced this look.
The new design was given a lift with newly rendered walls, which were also organised online.
To keep the space streamlined, the stainless steel fridge, dishwasher and other appliances were fully integrated into the kitchen layout. Tom also crafted some matching shelves to showcase the couples' favourite knick-knacks.
The kitchen effortlessly conveys that with the right design techniques in place a relatively small area can be transformed into a stylish, open area.
Most importantly for James and Iona, the whole project was completed in just a few weeks, leaving them plenty of time to add some last minute touches before the arrival of overseas guests.
The couple enjoyed the process so much that a more extensive renovation and extension of their terrace is already in the works.

Cost of kitchen: $12,000
Project description: The kitchen needed to be re-located to the living room. James & Iona requested a neutral palette to match the leafy terrace on Sydney's north shore with plenty of room for a double-oven, wine fridge, pantry and broom cupboard.
New kitchen highlights: The new kitchen boasts Cashmere CaesarStone benchtops, a glass splashback, gloss white cabinetry with brushed silver handles and integrated stainless steel appliances and Vintec wine fridge (appliances cost an extra $6,000).
Kitchen renovation company: Gumtree Joinery
