The old-fashioned dresser is back! Remember the ones your mum had with the attached mirror and fluffy stool you used to sit at wearing her high heels and playing with her red lipstick pretending to be a grown up? Well, it's time you got your own! Steal back a piece of wall in your bedroom and create your little beauty zone - and don't think you need to fork out $$$ for an antique dresser like your mum's. You can get modern - there are plenty of things that'll work. Here are a few ideas...
A floating shelf
Popular in living rooms, the floating shelf would make a great little dresser. Just attach it lower to the wall so you can sit at it comfortably. It won't be as wide as a proper dresser so you'll have to put only your faves on display.
A console table
Usually used in hallways or up against the back of a sofa for lamps and remotes, the console table is the perfect size. Look for one with drawers and fix a mirror to the wall instead of having it attached to the table.
A hall stand
You know the type: tall stands with hooks for hats and coats, a little bench for keys and a drawer for bits and bobs? It doesn't have to stay in the foyer - in fact, it's a made little dresser. It usually has a mirror so there is one less thing to worry about, the drawer can hold your make-up, the bench your fave perfumes and the hooks are a great place to display your jewellery loot, hats, bags and belts.
A buffet
Particularly a great idea if you're in the market for a new dining room buffet but can't bear to part with your old one! If it's in dodgy condition, sand it back and paint it white or stain it and think of all the brilliant storage for a never-ending cosmetics collection!
A chest of drawers
You probably already have one in your bedroom, so might as well claim the top of it as your make-up counter! A bar stool will let you reach taller versions, and if there are small drawers at the top, try to claim those as well for all your goodies! Then make good use of the countertop for a mix of jewellery, fragrance, fave pics and other special knick-knacks.
