What are the best new low-energy lighting options for the living room and the bedroom?
Lighting techniques have changed in recent years, moving from overlit interiors to subtle levels of illumination, balanced with strategic target lighting for task areas, acording to Glen Robinson, General Manager of Merchandise for Beacon Lighting. The sheer breadth of choice available in bulb technology and fittings - ranging from pendant lights and downlights to wall lights and lamps - can be bewildering, so a good idea is to have a qualified lighting designer come up with a package. This way, you can achieve results that are highly practical and energy-conscious, as well as atmospheric. "The latest products to hit the market are the Ledlux super-efficient LED [light-emitting diode] downlights," says Robinson. "These use approximately 80 per cent less electricity than standard halogen downlights. Also check out the new Terrasini and Sayama low-energy pendant lights." Beacon Lighting: 1300 232 266 or
