I'm trying to find a pretty bedside lamp with a touch base for a girl's room. I saw one I liked in a US catalogue but can't find anything similar here in Melbourne. Please help.

As you probably know, a lamp designed for US voltage won't be compliant with Australian standards. Instead, take a look at Freedom's Mio, a small lamp with a metallic touch base. You could re-cover its white shade in a feminine material, stencil on a design or transform it with fabric paints. For fabrics, go to online supplier Kelani Fabric Obsession.
