The facts
Cherries grow on trees and are a stone fruit. They are rounded in shape and are 1-3cm in diameter with a thin stalk that stays attached after harvesting. Cherries are sweet and juicy and a rich red in colour.
The uses
Cherries are perfect for putting in a big bowl and eating by themselves. They are also ideal to make jams, sauces, fruit salads and pies, pastries and muffins.
Choosing in store
Choose cherries that are fleshy and plump and have a glossy skin with green stems. Don't choose them if they are too hard.
Pair with
All types of fruit, icing sugar, cheese platters, chocolate.
Tip
Cherries don't ripen once they are harvested, so make sure you buy them ripe and eat them as soon as possible for maximum freshness.
