It's hard to go past French decor for a classic look. But it doesn't have to be frou-frou. In fact the French have a long heritage of industrial-style design. After all, the Tolix-inspired chairs went into production in 1934! This look works really well in an Australian setting. Sometimes you might want to create a space outside that's for a special occasion, such as a baby shower or birthday celebration. Well, why not create a shaded area so you can enjoy spending the time outdoors without exposing yourself to the harsh rays of the sun. We created a temporary awning in less than an hour. It's sure to create a talking point with your guests.

Consistency is key to any successful interior. And the same principles apply equally for outdoor spaces. So just because you want to create a relaxed vibe, that doesn't mean to say you should forgo the basic principles of decorating. Be consistent with the materials you use — if it's timber then don't match everything but try to keep it within a few shades of each other. Likewise, if you go for neutral colours then add texture, with pieces like timber log stools and a rust-style porthole wall garden, which works great as a screen.
