The couples were introduced to a place close to Scott Cam's heart, his workshop, with a challenge. And the prize was something all couples wanted big-time.

The Wall 2 Wall Challenge

This was a handy exercise for all the teams, covering that staple of building tasks: Construction of a Partition Wall.

The Challenge

The teams had just two hours to collect their materials, build identical sections of partition wall, paint and hang four framed pictures. Then at the end of the challenge be judged on structural integrity, finish and accuracy.

The Prize

Like all challenges there was a great prize up for grabs. Mark and Duncan, the two fat tradies from last year’s season of The Block, would be available for a whole day, at no cost, to help with any work the winning team had in mind. Now Mark and Duncan aren't just any tradies — they have years of experience and crucially, they were totally familiar with the rigours of working on The Block.

Two Furious Hours

The whistle blew and the teams set hurried off to Mitre10 in search of timber, CSR Gyprock, Paint and Stanley tools.

The workshop rang with the cacophonous sounds of furious activity. Couples measured, hammered studs to top and bottom plates then lined up noggins. Gyprock was scored, affixed and filled.

After a harrowing session, painting and drying with heat guns, fixtures were applied and pictures hung. Imagine their surprise when they saw what they were hanging.

A Tight Finish

The challenge went to the wire with all four couples downing tools in the last second before the two-hour time limit ran out. Judging was hard and it came down to a matter of millimetres... but the final winners were Tania and Rod, whose dimensions were almost exact.
