After building beach boxes in Brighton the couples were back at The Block. Shelley stood by for their next test: Champ or Chump, a game about how well the couples knew each other.
Two hundred points were up for grabs in a series of questions about each of the couples. Each question was worth 10 points, and each couple had to sit out in the round featuring questions about them.
Round 1 — Jenna and Josh: After a nervous start everybody got into the swing of things. By round's end Rod and Tania had 30 points
Round 2 — Polly and Waz: Everybody was on the board with points but Rod and Tania still led with 50 points by the end.
Round 3 — Katrina and Amie: Despite determined competition Rod and Tania increased their lead to 70 points. But in the final round they could only watch. Would another team overtake them?
Round 4 — Rod and Tania: Polly and Waz crept up and finished the round tied with Rod and Tania. So they went into a bonus round — a dance-off.
Tania was crestfallen, claiming she can't dance. And they got down — and dirty, especially Rod. Even Waz had no idea what he was doing: "I couldn't get over Rod, it was scary to watch." But his moves gave Rod and Tania the win.
The second day of the challenge had the couples up before dawn for a hot-air balloon race. Josh and Jenna and Polly and Waz were together in the black balloon, while Katrina and Amie and Rod and Tania were in the gold balloon.
But Tania refused to go up in the balloon, so Scotty took her place.
After some ginger manoeuvring, and a change of rules, the gold balloon landed within an arm's length of the target to take the win.
Scotty gave the teams just three hours to clean and stage the houses — plus he doled out $500 to spend as they pleased.
Some raced away to spend their $500 on whatever last-minute additions were deemed vital, while others, like Josh, stayed to tidy up: "I'm just going to work like a dog to get this place cleaned up and looking like a dream home."
After Scotty called "mops down!", the world's toughest judges arrived — couples from previous years of The Block. From season one came Waz and Gav and Phil and Amity , then from last year were the two fat tradies — Mark and Duncan — and Chez and Brenton, and the season's winners John and Neisha.
After careful consideration who did the former contestants came down in favour of? The winners of the final inspection will be revealed on Sunday — along with the winners of the auction!
