This is a simple little tutorial explaining how Josh from The Block 2011 built his amazing pallet bed.
The size of the bed's base is determined by the mattress. In the example Josh used a double.
Not all pallets are identical in size. Measure and saw so you end up with uniform pieces that fit together to form a base equal in width to the mattress. The base will be two pallets high.
Allow for the base's length to extend 100mm beyond the foot of the mattress. When it's complete this is where books can be stored. It's functional and looks really cool.
Fit the loose pieces together first and number them. Now sand back all the exposed timber. To ensure a stable base, all the pallets should be screwed together.
Apply up to four coats of clear lacquer to bring out the wood grain, allowing for proper drying time between coats.
It's that simple, and you can have a really funky recycled/industrial bed base just like Jenna and Josh.
