Brad and Lara were convinced they'd finish last this week, so imagine their surprise when they bested The Block to score their second Room Reveal win.
"I can't believe it!" Lara laughs. "I honestly thought we were going to come Chumps this week."
The stress of completing the rooftop terrace got to all the couples, but this week, Brad and Lara found themselves bickering for the first time on The Block.
"This week really was torture," Lara admits. "It was tough on us both."
"I'm glad we finished," Brad adds.
But all their forward-planning and running around paid dividends in the end, with the judges loving their bar and utilities area. They were also blown away with the functional, yet comfortable, space created outside.
"Paradise!" Shaynna said upon seeing their first area, complete with not one, but three specially-built drinks fridges.
"That's a very functional stainless steel bench top, and I'm assuming that's a hidden washer/dryer."
Lara maintained their decision to opt for a combined washing machine and tumble dryer wouldn't disadvantage them, and the judges weren't fazed. Maybe they were all too fixated on all that booze?!
"I want a beer," Shaynna laughed, upon seeing their set-up.
Stepping outside, the praise kept flowing.
"For me personally, I think I would use this space a lot. I could see myself here most days, subject to weather," John McGrath remarked.
"Already it's feeling like a relaxing roof space," Neale added.
For Brad and Lara, who spent hours making sure they finished everything off to a high standard, the judges' comments couldn't have been better.
"It was all really good and positive — it was great," Brad admits.
"The only thing they said was that they wanted some artwork, which is fair enough — we put those pictures up with 30 seconds to go!" Lara laughs.
One thing the couple were sure to go overboard with this week was storage space — and it's arguably this that ended up winning it for them. As well as building a deep space on the terrace, which Shaynna pointed out was perfect for storing tables and chairs, they also snuck some in under the roof, above the bar, and beneath the built-in benches. The result had all the judges in agreement — Brad and Lara had well and truly outdone the competition.
Their favourite thing: The decking upstairs. "Everyone else did theirs with nails, but we had click-in flooring. No screws or anything — it made it all much cleaner," Brad explains.
