They knew they were in with no chance of taking out a win this week. But defeat still stung for Dan and Dani, who became the first couple in Block history to present an incomplete room.
"Dani did have a bit of a cry," Dan admits.
"It's just that we were so disappointed. I think what we did was totally beautiful," Dani says sadly.
She's right – their room, although unfinished, is luxurious and of a high standard. But was it a case of deja u for the judges?
" have a little issue that we have only seen bedrooms from this couple," haynna told her fellow judges Neil Whitaker and guest judge Darren Palmer on Room Reveal day.
"They haven't changed. I feel like I'm in a Twilight Zone and have seen it all before."
But having their main bedroom mirror the style of the one they presented downstairs – and won for – last week, was always a deliberate strategy.
"We have gone with the same colour walls as downstairs – we're planning to run that right through the house," Dani explains.
They also used a lot of the same features we saw last week, like their Heatherly bed, and cushions sourced from Moss, used to provide that 'pop' of colour.
And if they had their time again, despite the dramas, they wouldn’t change a thing.
"We think that when this is finished, it will be the best main bedroom," says Dan. "It's totally personal and totally luxurious – and it really suits the house.
"I know it's our house and we're supposed to like it, but we actually really love it."
What they love: Their artwork. "I always wanted to have some original artwork in here; something that was quite romantic. A friend of mine is an artist in QLD. She had been to live nude drawing classes and had previously sketched the picture. She gave me a selection and I chose that one. I flew her down on Thursday with the painting and we are totally happy with it," Dani says.
Their favourite piece: Once again, Dan and Dani have chosen a Heathley bed for their room. "I consulted the designer and I told her what I wanted to achieve with this room. She said, 'I know it’s a risk, but I think we should do this colour, which is cobalt.' It's totally luxurious – I love it!" Dani says.
Their sink: The couple had plenty of dramas with their choice of sink, but in the end, even though it was installed incorrectly, they loved the one they went with. "I can't believe we didn't select this from the get-go!" Dani laughs.
