Mike and Andrew had high hopes for their study-come-guest-bedroom and were bitterly disappointed with their score.
"They didn’t like it – we only got 5 out of ten," says Andrew.
He knows it was their finishes that cost them valuable points.
"We didn’t have handles on the doors – we couldn't get the ones we wanted in time," he explains. "In the end we probably had the least amount of sleep of anyone – but it didn't matter. The judges didn’t like the fact that we ran out of time and didn't finish things."
They're determined to learn from their mistakes – but the judges' comments still sting.
"We are really disappointed that they think we are only halfway to delivering a room," Andrew explains. "We put so much time and effort into this, it would have nice to get feedback saying, 'Yeah, you didn't put handles on the cupboard, but everything else is as it should be."
He's now wondering if it was their lack of heritage detail that contributed to their low score.
"They would have preferred heritage architraves and skirtings, and cornices as well," he muses. "Although, in saying that, they still gave victory to people who didn't have any of that. It's confusing."
Their favourite thing: The fold-down bed and the canvas that acted as its handle. "We got that from a canvas supplier in Sydney called 'Simply Canvas'. We called them up and had it Platinum Express couriered down to us!" says Mike.
What they thought of the other rooms: "Every room had its highs and lows. Dale and Sophie had their amazing light, Brad and Lara did a really great job at matching their floor with their mirror and Dani and Dan had a really nice colour on their wall," says Andrew.
