They used their bonus point to no avail, narrowly avoiding being Chumps for this week. And all because of a sofa!
"We were pretty much told that it would have been a 10/10 room if it wasn't for the couch," Dale admits.
"They loved the rest," Sophie adds. "But they took marks off for the couch."
They're right: the judges absolutely hated their choice of seating — Neil in particular.
"My first thought is that they have chosen a sofa that is way too big," he said upon seeing their finished space. "It dominates the room. It makes a relatively small room feel even smaller."
Sophie and Dale's living area is, in fact, markedly smaller than everyone else's. But despite this, choosing a large sofa was always part of their plan — they want to appeal to a buyer wanting comfort and functionality in their living space.
Shaynna, like Neil, is not entirely convinced.
"This beautiful rug gets lost — and the beautiful table they made," she says.
Despite all this negative feedback, the judges all agreed on one thing — that the room was chock-full of personality and a sense of fun. Sophie's cute DIY string artwork, made at the last minute on the night before reveal, and her gorgeous little book sculptures didn't escape their attention, and they loved the way everything tied together.
"It's very 'them' — it's their direction. You have to give them points for consistency," John says.
"They have kept their personality, and I think that's integral," Shaynna adds.
