They have a kooky, retro style reminiscent of last year's contestants, Josh and Jenna. But Sophie and Dale are quickly learning that their designs may not be to everyone's tastes.
"We've never renovated before, and the only thing we can go off is the thought that we’re trying to design our perfect house," says Dale.
"After our first room, though, we figured that we really have to target a market rather than just do whatever we want."
And after the judges' comments last week, they've realised that some of their quirkier pieces – namely the chairs in the dining room - will have to go.
"They told us they weren’t for a million dollar buyer," Dale says, disheartened.
"Given their feedback, we know now that we may have to go a bit more high-end. In saying that though, the cabinet wasn't cheap, and the table and things weren’t cheap – we haven’t just got junk from anywhere."
Although they're understandably disappointed, both Dale and Sophie are determined to stay true to their original design ideas, and attempt to create a home that feels like 'them'.
"We want to still incorporate a bit of our own stuff without it being too in-your-face," Sophie adds. "We don’t want it to be so people can't walk in and go, 'Well, all we need to do is take these pictures down and it’s a blank room.'"
