Tempers flared on The Block last night when Brad and his builder, Asho, clashed with Keith the Foreman over their plan to duct an extractor fan through the floor, saving the heritage brickwork of the walls from being drilled.
"It dumbfounded me," Asho tells us exclusively. "We'd figured out what we were doing a couple of days earlier and we designed our room, and yeah... things get changed without people passing it on down the line.
"The next thing, I was just, 'Hang on, why are we doing this? We’ve figured out a cost-effective way of doing it.'"
As site foreman, it is Keith's job to ensure that only quality work is carried out on The Block. Given the close proximity to the dining room, they'd need the best ventilation solution, and Brad and Asho’s plan just didn't cut it.
"Now, the architect wants it, the construction manager wants it, I want it. It's the best solution," Keith says of the order to install the extractor fan on the wall.
Despite their... heated confrontation, it's all water under the bridge for Asho now, who's moved on from the clash.
"It's all part of working on a building site," he says. "You've got to have thick skin, and I've got thick skin these days. You've got to know how to deal with these things and move forward, and keep presenting nice rooms.
"Brad and I go back a long way. I'm good friends with his brother, and I've known him for a long, long time. That's why I’m there — to get the best result for the guy and his missus," Asho says.
