They were having a bad week, so you can imagine how pleased Sophie and Dale were to win Shelley's Money Tree challenge.
"We were really struggling [with our budget], but we had that nice injection of cash, thanks to the florist challenge. That meant we had 30 seconds to get as many hundred-dollar notes off the Money Tree," Sophie explains.
They were equally thrilled to find out that Shelley would match their winnings.
"Shelley said, 'Whatever you get, we'll double it,'" Sophie recalls. "But then she said, 'But when I say we'll double it, I actually mean the other couples will.' We had 48 hours to decide how we would break up the amount from everyone."
And, unbeknownst to Sophie and Dale, the other contestants began to think the worst.
"We decided to split it three ways, but what was surprising was that some people thought we might target them, or that we might take it all from one couple," she says. "We were like, 'Do you think that of us? Really?'"
So which contestants were sweating it the most?
"I think the brothers were stressed because they had won the most money. And Dani and Dan were stressed — but I don't know why," Sophie explains.
"They even had contingency plans if we attacked them! I hope they didn't think we'd take the money because we don't like them. I think that would be horrible if that is how they are feeling. Feelings aside, I'm surprised they thought that might get in the way. It's a bit primary school, isn't it?"
Sophie and Dale, ever the nice guys, decided the only fair thing to do would be to carve it up evenly.
"We definitely discussed taking money off the couples who had the most, but we didn't want to penalise those couples who had been doing well," she explains.
