It started out as a scratch but quickly turned into something far more sinister, resulting in an emergency hospital dash for Dale.
"I had a scratch on my hip that got infected, probably from the dust when we were dropping the ceiling," Dale explains. "I started to feel unwell, and this rash started spreading along my hip and down my leg."
"It was gross," Sophie admits, saying it was around this time that she started to get genuinely worried for her new husband. And it was off to the hospital, where Dale was forced to stay, on bed rest and with a drip, for two days.
"I was really worried about him," Sophie admits.
"I was just worried about the room!" Dale admits, pointing out he was rushed to hospital just as they were starting to fit everything for their living space.
"I kept visiting him and sitting with him, and he'd be like, 'Get back to The Block! What are you doing?' But neither of us had ever been in hospital before and he had to stay over, so I wanted to stay with him. But I had to come back here and try and do everything."
Dale admits he felt terrible for leaving the lion's share of the week's work to Sophie.
"I gave her a big list of stuff that needed doing," he admits.
"Half of it, I knew," Sophie adds. "And the chippies and builders — they knew exactly what they needed to do."
Thankfully, Dale is now feeling much better.
"I'm all right," he says stoically. "They discharged me on the basis that I could have home care."
"Nurses come and give him a drip twice a day," Sophie says, pointing out they were lucky it wasn't something more serious.
"They don't know what it was — it could have turned into a type of staph infection in the end," says Dale. "I was lucky."
