When they signed on to do The Block, they knew there'd be the odd sleepless night. But it's doubtful Mike and Andrew ever imagined just how tired they'd end up becoming over the course of the show.
"We're doing 100 hour weeks — minimum," Mike says. "It's difficult. The crew work extensive hours too, and they are pretty unimaginable, but the fact is, they get to go home at 8, 9.30 — and we're still working!"
So just how bad have things become for them?
"Last week, I did 72 hours with only two hours' sleep —I'm still delirious," Mike laughs.
Andrew admits that their time on The Block has been much more intense than they ever imagined.
"It was definitely a lot more full-on than we thought," he explains. "It literally killed us! I guess we expected we would be working ridiculous hours and not getting much sleep, but I don't think we quite fathomed how little sleep and how many hours we would be working."
It was the sheer volume of work that needed to be carried out that ended up overwhelming them. And given they're both builders for a living — that's saying something!
"To do one room in a week is a challenge in its own right — but to be doing two, sometimes three, it's unbelievable the limits your body is pushed to in order to achieve the results you need to win," Mike adds.
And they're not exaggerating — almost always, they're the last to bed on the night before Reveal.
"I think we've consistently done more late nights at the end than the rest have," Mike adds. "We hold the record for the least amount of sleep on The Block... ever!"
"All you can do is laugh... otherwise you’d go insane!"
