It was all the luck of the draw, but Mike and Andrew feel they copped a raw deal with the rooms they ended up having to renovate in the Challenge House.
"It was a tough week," Mike says. "We had to style a master bedroom and a living and dining area. These are the three rooms that are going to cost the most in terms of styling."
In comparison to Sophie and Dale, who have enough money leftover to splurge on luxury items for their kid's room, Mike and Andrew did it tough.
"It was expensive to get the couches, dining table and bed linen," he says. "We spent $9000 out of the $10,000 solely on furnishings."
They also feel that having a larger space to paint left them behind the eight ball when it came to finishing their rooms. Ironically, it was their idea to pull the rooms out of a hat. And we're betting they're bitterly regretting it now.
By not winning the big bucks off their reserve price, they may be at a bad disadvantage come Auction Day. Could this cost them the overall win on The Block?
"I think it will cause long-term issues," Andrew says with a laugh. "It was a twist that I don't think any of us were expecting. I don't like to speak on behalf of anyone else, but the general consensus is that [if it affects the auction], we'll all be a little pissed off."
Except the winner, we imagine.
